The history of KOSAF gives a vital perspective on the progress of national student aid in Korea since its establishment. 2012

  • 12KOSAF wins the runner-up prize at the 2012 Korea's Best Blog Awards.
  • 12KOSAF Wins the silver prize at the 9th Webaward Korea in the category of the Best Web-magazine.
  • 11KOSAF wins the Best Public Service Announcement (PSA) Award from the 22th Korea Communications Awards.
  • 11KOSAF wins the grand prize of the 5th Korea Internet Communication & Social Media Awards in the category of quasi-government organizations.
  • 10KOSAF wins the gold prize at the Intrnational Business Awards in the caetegory of the Year's Best Consumer Marketing.
  • 03KOSAF wins the grand prize at the 2012 Happiness Plus and Social Contribution Awards.

2011

  • 12The standards for ICLs are relaxed (req. min. grade: B →C), and its interest rate is lowered (4.9% → 3.9%).
  • 11KOSAF's annual report wins the bronze prize of the 2011 Spotlight Awards in the Educatino/Research/Foundation category.
  • 11KOSAF's in-house magazine wins the grand prize from the 21st Korea Communications Awards
  • 11KOSAF is designated as a public financial institution.
  • 11KOSAF hosts its second Forum on the Internaitonal Forum on Student Aid Policy.
  • 10KOSAF wins the main prize of the International Busienss Awards in the category of financial service.
  • 09KOSAF is certified as the family-friendly workplace by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Familiy.
  • 07KOSAF is desginaed as a legally charitable organization for donation.
  • 06KOSAF receives the grade "A" from the 2010 Evaluation of Public Institutions, the first among the newly established public institutions.

2010

  • 11KOSAF's customer service center obtains the desgination as meeting the Korean Industrical Standard (KS Mark).
  • 07KOSAF obtains the international credit rating of A1 by Moody's and A+ by Fitch (The same credit rating as the national government's)
  • 06KOSAF hosts its first International Forum on Student Aid Policy.
  • 05KOSAF launches The Korea Mentoring Network (KORMENT).
  • 01KOSAF is desginaed as a quasi-government organization.
  • 01KOSAF starts offering its first income contignet loans (ICLs) which allow borrowers to repay their loans in monthly installments based on their incomes after graduation.

2009

  • 07KOSAF begins offering its first direct, general loans to the students in higher education
  • 06KOSAF receives an "AAA" credit rating from Korea Credit Rating Agency.
  • 05The Korea Student Aid Foundation is officially created with the appointment of Dr. Kyung-sook Lee as its first chairperson .
  • 04The IT infrastructure for KOSAF is built.
  • 02The preparatory committee for the establishment of KOSAF is created.
  • 01The National Assembley of Korea passes the Act on the Establishment of KOSAF and related legislations.

2008

  • 10The Act on the Establihsment of the Korea Student Aid Foundation (KOSAF) is finalized.
  • 05A preliminary plan for a customized student aid system is established.
  • 02The Korean Government selects the establishment of a customized student aid system as a major national task.
